I was about to post a selection of great covers by designer Matt Dorfman, but then on his blog I came across a really interesting post about the cover he designed for The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson which was my favorite cover of his anyway.

Above are all the different options and developments he came up with on his way to the final cover and jacket design, which are the last two images of the nine above. Really interesting, I love the finished piece. Read more about it here and look at his other work here.

Not a huge fan of false eyelashes, but I do adore paper. These will be getting purchased. Oh yes.

Lashes from None Such Things  . Lovely place.

Completely loved the opening titles to BBC’s Great Expectations that was shown over Christmas 2011. The theme of collected butterflies and taxidermy was ran throughout the set pieces of the series. Great stuff. Love a bit of Dickens, but even more so when it’s exquisitely art directed.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. Woman’s World by Graham Rawle tells the story of Norma, an woman living in the perfect woman’s world. The tale is set in the 1960s, but what really brings it to life is that it is set in 1960s type from fragments of vintage magazines.

Collaged together from around 40,000 pieces of magazines, it took five years to produce (with the artwork alone taking two years). The end result is an absolute masterpiece, the story by itself is brilliant, and the collage approach gives it an amazing voice. An amalgamation of conceptual art, wonderful writing and awesome type. Buy it.

Graham Rawle also has lots of other great stuff here. I especially like the Bright Ideas series on his blog.

I came across Maximo Riera’s Octopus Chair a while back, he has now released other pieces in his Animal Chair Collection, a rhino and a walrus. Totally stunning and a litlle bit creepy. Love it.

Amerikan Made are my new design crush. Love this Mr Typeface Print.

Mr.Typeface™ has just heard that it’s the end of print and he is crying reams of paper tears.

The style and layout pays tribute to the awesome Penguin paperback book covers from the 1960’s and early 70’s.”

Currently swooning over House Industries PLINC Catalogue. Beautifully designed down to the envelope, which I couldn’t bear to rip so geekily steamed open…

“Before digital type there was Photo Lettering Inc (PLINC). A casualty of the digital publishing revolution, most of their timeless alphabet styles and the proprietary techniques that accompanied them have lain fallow for decades. House Industries acquired the collection in 2003 and is proud to present PLINC’s legendary quality, sophistication and sense of style in a new, easy to use online service: photolettering.com

I particularly like Brodovitch Albro by Alexey Brodovitch, and not just because I like saying Brodovitch, which is a fabulous name. Apparently the Kate Moss logo for her Topshop Collection is based on this typeface. Lush…

Have pondered over this for a while, but have decided to fuel my print/type/journal habit further and bought one. Working on a type journal would be my dream project.

“Codex is a new quarterly typography magazine with feature articles, book and type reviews, interviews, tips, type history, new and notable faces and essays from top typography experts.

The first issue features contributions by: Christian Schwartz and Paul Barnes, Paul Shaw, Stephen Coles, Erik Spiekermann, Dr Paul Dijstelberge, Craig Mod, Luca Barcellona, and more.”  Working Format

This is my entry into the 20 Years of Laurence King Poster Design Competition. The brief required that the poster be themed around the number 20. I chose to design a clean, graphic poster containing 20 books and based on a 20 row grid. I measured an assortment of Laurence King books to get the book proportions then set them against the grid. The tower of books represents growth of knowledge, ideas and creativity that Laurence King books offer and also the growth of the publishing house since its beginnings in 1991.
